Four key Melbourne suburbs haven’t built a major project in five years
Four of the 10 suburbs where the Victorian government wants to rapidly increase housing density have not had a major apartment project built in the past five years, as developers warn that overhauling planning powers alone won’t be enough to fix the state’s housing crisis.
The Allan government wants to build 80,000 homes every year for the next 10 years, a goal that appears wildly optimistic, given that 51,000 new dwellings were approved in Victoria last year.
