Commuter centres rise, but Byron Bay set to fall further

House prices in regional centres within commuting distance of central business districts are poised to track the recovery under way in the biggest capital cities, bolstered by spillover demand from surging migration, CoreLogic says.

However, home values in the more expensive regional areas, such as Byron Bay and the NSW Southern Highlands are likely to fall further after the pace of quarterly declines re-accelerated last month, suggesting they still have some way to go before they hit the bottom, said Kaytlin Ezzy, CoreLogic Australia economist.
