How Australia can avoid a New York-style housing crisis

The less politically polarised Australian debate has recognised that easing restrictions on supply is the key to fixing the housing stress on young voters. But it won’t be a quick fix.

It was a win for the oldies when 33-year-old Brisbane Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather flamed out at the May election.

But 33-year-old socialist Zohran Mamdani last week sharpened the battle of the generations by sensationally winning Democratic Party endorsement for New York City’s mayoral race.
