Andrews urged to scrap stamp duty to ease housing crisis

A parliamentary committee has urged the Andrews government to consider scrapping stamp duty in Victoria and replacing it with a broad-based land tax to improve housing affordability.
Premier Daniel Andrews, speaking before the committee’s report was released on Tuesday, said the “carrying cost” of such a transition could hit “many billions of dollars” but that he was open to considering it.
