Almost nine decades ago, David Jones opened its biggest store. On the site of its original shop, the retailer’s Sydney CBD flagship building attracted 100,000 customers on its first day of trade.

In just a matter of months, the famed art deco building will have another opening – this time as a luxury apartment complex, a gleaming 22-storey tower which is part of a $1 billion redevelopment of the site.
