Japanese capital investment in Australian property is set to boom – after retreating nearly three decades ago – as travel restrictions ease and the next wave of institutional investors arrives chasing higher-yielding assets.

Earlier this month, Tokyo-listed Mitsui Fudosan made an undisclosed capital investment into Frasers Property Australia’s $232 million MAC Residences project in Sydney, echoing moves made by Mitsubishi Estate in partnerships with Oxford Properties and Investa, Crown Group and Lendlease.
