Engineers cut staff as commercial work slows

Engineering consultancies are cutting staff in their commercial construction operations as activity slows, with businesses hit hardest in Melbourne, where the loss of planned Commonwealth Games work is worsening a slowdown in the privately funded market.

Global giant Arup cut more than 60 people in a process that ended in November and did not issue a dividend to shareholders.
