Heather Ruddock, the wife of former attorney-general Philip Ruddock, has quit the Liberal Party, disenchanted by it losing touch with its base including professional women.

Ms Ruddock is throwing her support behind the community independent for Berowra at the federal election due on or before May 17, local news publisher Tina Brown, who is challenging Liberal MP Julian Leeser.
