Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says the wheels are falling off the Victorian government after the state’s acting police chief announced he did not want the job permanently, two weeks after a public falling out with Premier Jacinta Allan.
Acting Chief Commissioner Rick Nugent’s rejection of the top job just 41 days after taking it on in a temporary capacity adds to a sense of dysfunction at the top levels of Victoria’s government, which is being reflected in plunging poll numbers for Allan.
