As the managing director and then chairman of Lend Lease through its blue-chip glory years, Stuart Hornery was one of the most influential business leaders of his era. On New Year’s Eve, Mr Hornery, 73, died from cancer. He was cremated at a private family funeral yesterday.

Delivering the eulogy, his son David spoke of the many dimensions of his father’s character: as a “bold and visionary leader"; as an engineer with a “passion for design and unconventional solutions"; as a “stirrer"; and as a “gentle man with a deeply ingrained set of egalitarian values" who “cared very deeply for others".
