The powerful Expenditure Review Committee of Cabinet will consider a report calling for an overhaul of Australia's innovation policies, as the nation slips down the innovation league tables.

Prepared by the Government's Innovation and Science Australia Board, the report calls for the switch in innovation support from indirect tax breaks to direct funding, particularly in export promotion.
