Hard border closures, alarmist tweets and basically giving the middle finger to anyone who suggests we need to live with delta; Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s approach to the COVID-19 pandemic is either infuriating or endearing. It depends, more or less, on which side of the Tweed River you live on.
As the lockdown states of NSW and Victoria get on with the road map to reopening, Palaszczuk stands as the biggest roadblock. Mark McGowan may be a kindred spirit, but Western Australia has a natural border with the rest of the country. Queensland’s densely populated south-east corner rubs up directly against northern NSW, a San Andreas Fault between two states going in entirely different directions.
