Local councils are a powerhouse of good government

Ignore the critics. Some of the most important work of government happens at the local level.

At a time when public confidence in Australian government is at an all-time low, one tier of government continues to hold up.

Local government is consistently found to be the most trusted level of government by Australians. A recent Essential Poll found 42 per cent of respondents trusted their local council. By comparison, 31 per cent said they trusted state government, while just 28 per cent had trust in federal government.
