Labor is looking to use incumbency against long-term coalition MPs in two "sea change" electorates in country Victoria.

A redistribution in the seat of Gippsland, held by Science Minister Peter McGauran, has slashed the incumbent's margin from 8.1 per cent to 2.6 per cent.
