Australia’s traditional industries will be able to adapt to a new energy economy without being badly damaged, the government says, as it seeks to shore up support among the Nationals for a plan to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Cabinet will assess a technology-based road map on Wednesday, which will include incentives but no carbon price mechanism such as a safeguards mechanism, before the plan is presented to the Nationals on Sunday.
