Australia is having trouble finding its Voice
The Nationals’ decision not to support the Indigenous Voice has put a big spanner in the works for a referendum on Indigenous recognition in the constitution.
Even amid the frenetic pace of the final parliamentary sitting week of the year, Monday’s announcement from the Nationals was out of the blue.
As Labor was busy pushing through a slew of legislation to round out its first six months in office, Nationals leader David Littleproud said his party would not support the Indigenous Voice to federal parliament.
