WHO panel calls COVID-19 this century’s ‘Chernobyl moment’
Australia should join a push for a special meeting of the United Nations to fundamentally transform preparedness for the next global pandemic, a scathing report on the COVID-19 crisis says.
Commissioned by the World Health Organisation, the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, led by former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark, has described the more than 3 million deaths and 150 million coronavirus infections around the world as the 21st century’s “Chernobyl moment”.
