WA anti-corruption chief cites misconduct risk over new planning laws
Western Australia’s anti-corruption chief says the Labor government’s bid to boost the number of homes and residential developments by overhauling the state’s planning laws has created new misconduct risks.
Corruption and Crime Commissioner John McKechnie KC said steps to spur development by removing “checks and balances” carried risk, but ultimately it was a political decision for the government to balance that against a crippling housing shortage.
