Anthony Albanese has been urged not to ditch a promised Makarrata truth-telling commission, as Voice to parliament advocate Pat Anderson warned politicians were often “fair weather friends” to Indigenous Australians.

The Uluru Dialogue leader told a conference in Wollongong that cynical retail politics was getting in the way of Indigenous advancement and she feared “the Makarrata baby [will be] thrown out with the referendum bathwater”.
