The Australian navy is tracking a group of Chinese warships that reportedly approached within 150 nautical miles of Sydney in what has been described as an “unprecedented” Chinese move to project power in the Pacific.

The Financial Times in the UK reported that the ships were being shadowed by the Royal Australian Navy after appearing on the north-east coast last week.
