Tradies carved out of migration overhaul amid union pressure

Business may be unable to bring foreign tradies into Australia under the Albanese government’s new fast-track visa rules, amid pressure from unions to save high paid blue-collar jobs for local workers.

Migration experts and business groups are urging Labor to drop the mooted carve-out from the program, which is expected to apply to foreign workers earning about $120,000 – part of the biggest shake up of migration rules in decades.
