‘Towering figure’: Australian political leaders pay tribute to Abe

Shinzo Abe remains the most consequential Japanese prime minister for relations with Australia, political leaders said on Friday, paying tribute to the architect of a landmark free trade deal and the Quad security dialogue.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed shock at the shooting of Japan’s longest-serving leader, saying his thoughts were with Mr Abe’s family and the people of Japan as he fought for life.
