Top lawyers warn merger reforms could slow deals, add to cost
Leading competition lawyers have warned that the watchdog’s proposed changes to merger laws may slow down deals and make them more costly, rejecting suggestions the current system is not fit for purpose.
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb called on Wednesday for an overhaul of the country’s existing voluntary merger approval regime to require companies to gain formal clearance before pursuing any mergers.
