The lashing of the political class at the Business Council of Australia’s annual dinner came and went. Revelations about alleged dodgy price discounts by Coles and Woolworths saw to that. Cue eye rolls in Canberra about lectures from big business and being “savaged by a dead sheep”.

Still, it’s worth lingering on one issue The Australian Financial Review has spotlighted, namely the inability of corporate Australia’s peak body to exercise power in the cause of good economic policy.
