NBN Co chief executive Stephen Rue took home more than $2.93 million in pay last financial year, as the government-owned corporation restructured executive salaries following bruising criticism from federal parliament.

Mr Rue leads a field of at least 24 public servants and government-owned corporation executives who last year earned more than $1 million, according to an analysis of public sector annual reports by The Australian Financial Review.
