The failed referendum to cement an Indigenous Voice in the nation’s constitution was a “mistake from the start”, claims former prime minister Paul Keating, who is now calling for an Aboriginal legislated body to build on the gains of native title.
A “lot of clever Aboriginal people have wasted a lot of years” on constitutional recognition, Mr Keating said in an interview with The Australian Financial Review to mark his 80th birthday.
