Snapshot of today’s COVID-19 developments
Following a rolling series of press conferences from governments across the station, here’s a quick wrap of the current state of play.
- NSW reported 30 new cases, taking the Bondi cluster to 110. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has warned NSW to expect case numbers in coming days to be higher than seen before.
- Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield entered a strict 48-hour lockdown at 1pm local time after the Northern Territory recorded four new cases of COVID-19.
- NT chief minister Michael Gunner says authorities are “assuming the worst” with regards to additions to the territory’s four active cases, which are all linked to the Tanami gold mine.
- WA Health Minister Roger Cook announced phase one restrictions will be imposed in the Perth and Peel regions for three days, after a woman who had travelled to Sydney and visited an exposure site tested positive yesterday. No areas are currently in lockdown.
- Victorian officials are confident they have the Sandringham dry cleaner delta outbreak under control with no new infections recorded Sunday. The state is also monitoring an infected Virgin attendant who flew into Victoria.
- Queensland will from 6am on Monday reintroduce the one per two square metre density requirements for venues, while a maximum of 100 people will be allowed in homes.
- South Australia has erected hard borders with Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and ACT after doing likewise with NSW earlier this week.
- The ACT will make face masks compulsory on public transport and while indoors with people they don’t normally live or work with from midnight.
- Greg Hunt says the government is not considering lowering the age limit for people to get the AstraZeneca vaccine based on the advice from health experts. He said 7.3 million vaccine doses have been delivered nationally.
- A national plan to protect Indigenous communities from outbreaks of the coronavirus has been put into effect.
