Supermarket review considers ramping up fines for code breaches
A government-commissioned review of Australia’s food and grocery regulations will consider increasing financial penalties on the nation’s supermarket giants for breaching any new industry code of conduct.
Former Labor competition minister and economist Dr Craig Emerson has been commissioned by the Albanese government to review the Food and Grocery Industry Code of Conduct due to concerns its current structure is too weak amid a cost-of-living crisis.
