Spender push to toughen hate speech laws amid antisemitism crisis

Anthony Albanese is facing demands to strengthen anti-hate speech laws, including amendments that would have criminalised the “F--- the Jews” chant at the now infamous Sydney Opera House protest two days after the October 7 terror attack.

Jewish community leaders will support amendments from independent MP Allegra Spender to add “promoting hatred” as an offence, under Labor’s proposed hate crimes legislation, which would significantly expand the types of behaviour that could be prosecuted, with jail terms of up to two years.
