Religious schools to lose power to expel gay students

In a deal to win support for his signature religious freedom laws, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the government will strip religious schools of legal protections to expel gay and lesbian students.

Already facing two inquiries and an uncertain path through Parliament, a controversial bill will be matched with changes to the Sex Discrimination Act, removing exemptions for faith-based schools to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, relationship status or pregnancy.
