Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is facing pressure from within Labor ranks to use an upcoming United Nations conference on the Middle East peace process to recognise Palestinian statehood, as he issued one of his strongest rebukes of Israel over its partial blockade that has left thousands of Gazans on the brink of starvation.
Albanese revealed he had personally protested to Israeli President Isaac Herzog earlier this month over the blockade, amid rising global condemnation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his conduct of the war, including airstrikes that are killing children.
