Boat arrivals who reached WA taken to Nauru

A group of about 40 asylum seekers who surprised authorities by reaching the remote north-west of Western Australia have been taken to Nauru, as federal Labor moves to defuse a growing political crisis.

Believed to be from Pakistan and Bangladesh, the group of men reached Beagle Bay and Pender Bay, north of Broome, by boat on Friday. Australian Border Force and the federal government scrambled to deal with them, and by Sunday they had been sent by plane for processing and offshore detention in Nauru.
