No longer a ‘state issue’: Feds stump up $14m for marine crisis

The federal government has pledged $14 million to help South Australia deal with its unfolding marine catastrophe, following weeks of public and political pressure, including from Adelaide-based cabinet ministers.

Three days after continuing to insist the toxic algal bloom was primarily a state issue, which failed to meet the definition of a national disaster, Environment Minister Murray Watt flew to Adelaide on Monday to announce the hastily assembled funding, immediately after it was approved by Cabinet.
