No blood on the floor at defence debate

Defence Minister Peter Dutton was more confident while his opposite Brendan O’Connor stood his ground, so on balance Labor would be happy.

Defence Minister Peter Dutton delivered the more confident performance in Thursday’s defence debate but his opposite Brendan O’Connor didn’t screw up, so on balance Labor would be satisfied.

But despite the grave strategic times we are told we live in – and the government’s emphasis on khaki on the election trail – watchers of the National Press Club debate didn’t learn much new about how either major party would approach the defence of the nation.
