New watchdog won’t have power to rein in million-dollar uni salaries
A new federal watchdog will not have the authority to set or cap vice chancellors’ million-dollar salaries and will be limited to offering advice and guidance to university councils, experts say.
However, worsening community attitudes towards universities and their well-paid bosses over international students and their bearing on the housing crisis should force the councils to be more circumspect over senior executive remuneration.
