Treasurer Jim Chalmers has flown to Washington to meet Donald Trump’s top treasury official amid a new threat from the US president of tariffs and penalties for countries that target United States tech giants with taxes and regulations.
In the strongest signal yet that the Trump administration will retaliate against the Albanese government’s bid to force tech giants to pay for Australian news or face penalties, Trump on Friday night accused overseas governments of plundering the revenues of US technology companies.
