The Nationals will oppose an Indigenous Voice to federal parliament, ending the prospect of bipartisan support ahead of a referendum that could occur as early as next year.
Nationals leader David Littleproud said the consultative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians would not help close the Indigenous disadvantage gap and could not be supported by the junior Coalition partner.
