Move fast on AI boom, new chief scientist tells Labor

The federal government’s new top scientific adviser says Australia is perfectly positioned to ride the global artificial intelligence boom through its access to sources of renewable energy. He also pledged to carefully consider the development of ocean wave energy, fusion and nuclear power – energy sources that are not commercially available in Australia.

Industry and Science Minister Ed Husic has appointed oceanographer, chemist and entrepreneur Tony Haymet as Australia’s new chief scientist, succeeding Cathy Foley after her term ended in December.
