Peter Dutton and the Coalition have secured a solid victory in the byelection for the Gold Coast seat of Fadden, providing a sorely-needed morale boost.

While Labor never expected to win the seat, it has suffered a swing against it, which does not augur well in a state in which it holds just 5 of the 30 seats and which will be important at the next general election.
