Modi mania comes at a price

Revelations that Indian spies were kicked out of Australia is a reminder of the need to be wary when it comes to dealing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

When Anthony Albanese declared Narendra Modi “the boss” last year, it won a rapturous response from 20,000 Indian-Australians packed into the Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.

But revelations, courtesy of The Washington Post, that ASIO kicked Indian spies out of Australia in 2020 is a cautionary tale of the risks of cuddling up too close to the Indian prime minister.
