Local defence firms put a rocket up Morrison over jobs promises
Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price is facing pressure from local suppliers angry at foreign firms winning lucrative defence contracts.
Defence suppliers have warned that home grown businesses are losing out to foreign firms under Australia's $200 billion arms build-up, undermining a key argument from the Morrison government that the taxpayer-funded spending spree would create thousands of local jobs.
The Australian Industry & Defence Network, which represents about 800 small-to-medium enterprises, is demanding the government urgently review its industry capability plan to ensure local companies can compete on merit for defence work.
