As a schoolgirl, Jayne Jagot showed early signs of the kindness and empathy that have become her signature as one of the nation’s pre-eminent judges.

Sworn in as the 56th justice of the High Court of Australia on Monday, the former Federal Court and the NSW Land and Environment Court judge was honoured during a ceremonial sitting in Canberra, overseen by Chief Justice Susan Kiefel.
