Former Liberal leaders Mike Baird and Kate Carnell have split with Peter Dutton on the Voice to parliament, describing the referendum question as a simple and straightforward proposal to recognise Indigenous Australians.

Launching a new campaign group called Liberals For Yes on Sunday, Ms Carnell said there was strong community support for the constitutionally enshrined consultative body, which she described as a practical reform that would improve policymaking.
