Letters: What if the referendum fails?
Nationals and the Indigenous Voice idea; 50 years after Whitlam’s victory; energy price cap and NSW-Vic power grab; tax cuts; the future of Australian soccer.
Yes, it can be argued that the Nationals have jumped too quickly in stating their opposition to the proposed Indigenous Voice to parliament (“Nationals turn up volume”, December 3-4).
However, and in fairness to them, at this stage the Voice, after some years of development, is still just an ambitious idea, meant to address past and present disadvantages experienced by First Nations people. Realistically, and in the cold hard light of politics and human nature, it can also be described as an ill-defined mirage, and a risky proposition.
