Labor wants a deal on more senators by Christmas

Labor wants to expand federal parliament in time for the next election, promising to push ahead with legislation to add more senators for the ACT and Northern Territory this year.
Special Minister of State Don Farrell has been trying to engineer a deal between the major parties that would double the number of senators for each territory from two to four and bring the total number of upper house members to 80.
