Labor backs class action against welfare robodebts
Former Labor leader Bill Shorten and leading Melbourne lawyer Peter Gordon will spearhead a class action challenge to the Coalition's robodebt scheme for recovery of welfare payments.
After three years of controversy stemming from thousands of debt notices issued to Centrelink recipients based on data-matching of income and tax information, Labor believes the courts could find there is no legal basis for using an algorithm to measure payments.
