Cattle farmers have been offered $215 million to end an almost decade-old legal battle over Labor’s 2011 temporary live export ban, a figure well below industry demands that will probably entrench already bitter divisions.
The December settlement offer, which expires on July 21, is well below the $2 billion in damages and interest being sought by the industry, which has accused Labor of trying to delay the case for political reasons.
