Labor denies rushing pre-election citizenship ceremonies

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has denied fast-tracking citizenship applications to encourage newly arrived migrants to vote for Labor, insisting ceremonies around the country are being held to clear backlogs.

Weeks out from the federal election, as many as 6000 people are due to become Australian citizens in ceremonies at Sydney Olympic Park this week, leading to allegations the federal government is trying to build support in key marginal seats in NSW.
