Kate Jenkins’ plan for her successor as sex discrimination commissioner

Australia’s next sex discrimination commissioner needs to focus on pulling older women out of poverty as stubborn pay and superannuation gaps leave them “very vulnerable”, according to the trailblazer about to leave the job.

Reflecting on her seven years in the role before her departure this month, Kate Jenkins said there had been more progress on ending sexual harassment and discrimination in workplaces than she had hoped for in that time, but more urgent work needed to be done.
