‘Chaos and instability’: PM pivots as independents loom

Labor and the Coalition have four weeks to win over more than 800,000 voters each, and a hung parliament is possible as support grows for a new crop of independent candidates.

Only a few weeks ago, Scott Morrison and senior Liberals were warning that a vote for a teal independent was a vote for Labor.

With six crossbenchers already ensconced in the parliament, and as many as 15 so-called teal independents targeting moderate Liberals in hitherto safe seats, Morrison’s appeal was to the conservative voters contemplating jumping ship.
